The 2nd Annual Michigan Hummingbird Festival was held on August 23 at the River Lake Inn Restaurant near Colon, MI. I was a participating vendor and met quite a few hummingbird enthusiasts!
The Richland Farmer's Market has a craft-only market on the first Wednesday of every month. Look for me vending there this week (Sept. 3) in the last craft market of the season.
I was the the Featured Artist in the Kalamazoo Nature Center's Glen Vista Gallery from October 2008 through January 2009.
Also, the Opening Reception for that exhibit was on Saturday, October 11th at 12 p.m. The Wild Ones October Conference was being held the same day.
I shared a booth with Matthew Clysdale at the Southwest Michigan Harvest Festival at Tiller's International on Sunday, September 21, from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm.
The contract was signed today for a June-July 2008 Arthop exhibit at the Hayward-McNelis Gallery in the Henderson Castle. My many thanks to Laura & Peter Livingstone for their advocacy of my work, and for their community-focused programs already being hosted in the Castle.

My 'Hummingbird Dance' photo was the featured cover shot of the Kalamazoo Nature Center's Aug/Sept 2008 Nature Center News newsletter. Another shot shared the upper right corner. Many thanks to Lisa Panich at the KNC for her dynamic graphic designs utilizing my photos!

A tentative scheduling has my work exhibiting at The Henderson Castle Gallery in June, 2008. The Hayward-McNelis Gallery is a brand-new official stop on the Art Hop, and is a superb location for holding both public & private events and programs.

I'll be at Wedel's Garden Center's Spring Expo from March 27-29 (Thurs.-Sat.), giving two seminars on 'bird-in-the-hand' & nature photography. There'll be a display booth with my artwork on sale during the entire 3-day event, so stop by to see my newest photos and say "hello". Call Wedel's at 345-1195 for more info.
My exhibit at the West Michigan Cancer Center was included in the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo's expanded March Art Hop, brochure and in their online publicity for the Art Hop. Although the stop was very poorly attended, my thanks go out to those who visited and showed support.
The WMCC kindly hosted a new Opening Reception for my exhibit on Friday, March 7th. The gallery is open to the public from 9-5, M-F. Call 382-2500 for info.
The WMCC will also be hosting another reception for my work, in conjunction with the 6 other artists in the upstairs gallery, sometime in mid-April.

My scheduled February Art Hop Exhibit's Opening Reception at the West Michigan Cancer Center was cancelled on Friday by the Arts Council "due to inclement weather".
Although I am aware that many of my supporters and other artists involved were both surprised and dismayed by this decision, I am hopeful that there will be a rescheduling of the event soon.
To all of the many, many individuals, organizations, and businesses to whom I mailed and emailed invitations, and to all of the venues and businesses where you've kindly let me leave promotional fliers and postcards: thank-you for your support! Please be aware that I will now be unable to re-send or re-post invitations if there is a rescheduling of this event. This is due to a full loss of my publicity budget because of the cancellation.
I personally apologize to all who showed up at the venue, or who called me seeking answers.
Please call the Arts Council at 342-5059 to inquire, to request, and to voice your opinion on this or any other art matters.

My exhibit at the Nature Connection Art Hop stop was installed and will be up through and beyond the holidays. This location and reception was very busy, with about 300 people coming through the doors.
Interest generated from this exhibit has led me to signing a contract for an exhibit at the Parkview Hills Willow Lake Clubhouse in April, 2008. This will be an installation of about 35 pieces.

The Editorial Assistant at Birder's World magazine has informed me that my Tree Swallow photo, offered on-line as desktop wallpaper since April, will now be featured in the February 2008 regular paper issue. The photo has apparently been especially popular with their subscribers, and the article will include a letter from a Birder's World reader commenting on the shot.

The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo has informed me that I've been awarded the Irving S. Gilmore Emerging Artist Grant for 2007.
This grant is awarded to an artist who fits the criteria of the grant as either a new, emerging artist, and/or an artist making a complete career change or undergoing a significant shift in their artistic choice of medium or work.
The artist must submit a thorough grant application within the alloted timeframe complete with a detailed budget, artistic work samples and statement, references, and specific intentions for the grant funds, among many other parameters. I'm pleased that I've received 95% of the full amount of the grant that I requested.
Many thanks to the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation Emerging Artist Grant Program and the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo.

The birding seminar I gave at Wedel's Garden Center on Saturday was a big hit (especially my mimicking bird calls), and the "meet & greet" afterwards was wonderful for me to mingle with people who really appreciate their birds and nature! Many thanks to George and Andy Wedel, Terri Schwartz, and the whole staff at Wedel's for making my "day off" so pleasant and rewarding.

The Editor of Bluebird, the journal of the North American Bluebird Society (NABS), informed me that one of my nestling Tree Swallow photos will be used as the cover shot for the next issue. There will also be a bio on me and my work inlcuded within the issue.

I was notified that three of my wildlife images have won places in the Barry Community Foundation's calendar contest. Each photo will represent one month in the calendar year. The 12-month calendar's theme is "Kids & Critters", and will be ready for sale by December. At only $5, it's a deal- and it supports the Barry Community Foundation.
The Kalamazoo Gazette ran a featurette article on my work in the Sunday, October 14th "Arts & Entertainment" section. Also, there was an ArtHop blurb in that week's Thursday Gazette, with the whole 'Weekend' section devoted to the ArtHop.

I secured a spot on the November 2007 Art Hop at the Smartshop Gallery location in Kalamazoo.
Smartshop's Arts Curator and Gallery Coordinator, Rachel McCartney, feels my work will fit in well with the overall Smartshop theme and its vision for their artists.
The installation will be in place through February of 2008. I hope this will be just the beginning of a long and beneficial collaboration!

The newest venue I partnered with to host my work was the sunny Burdick Street Beanery coffeehouse in downtown Kalamazoo, two blocks south of Tromblay Salon and near Bronson Hosiptal.
The Beanery saw an installation of my Summer 2007 photographs running through October, 2007.
